Gerhardt Thompson Publishes New Book

Gerhardt Thompson, one of the first artists to join Sculptr.com, has recently published a new book, The Sun Drenched Nude: Artistic Nudes in the Australian Landscape. This book contains 75 black and white photographs from seven of the artist’s award winning series. If you are a fan of Gerhardt’s work but have found his prints to be a little out of your price range, I’m sure you will agree that this is a very reasonable alternative. -Sid

Enduring the January Chill

We hope everyone has been enjoying the new year so far. It’s been pretty cold in the New England area recently and we’ve been doing our best to stay indoors.

If you have any upcoming events you would like to share with us, please feel free to post them on the forum or shoot us an email!

Happy Holidays!

We wish a happy holiday season to all of our artists and art enthusiasts.  We hope that all of you have a very merry and safe time with family and friends.

Best Wishes,

Tony, Jasper & Sid

Stuff@Night

stuff@night sculptrThe new Stuff@Night hit newstands today with us featured in their ‘What’s Hot’ section.  The magazine is very popular in the metro-Boston area and is considered a guide for young professionals who want to be hooked into the newest trends on the Boston scene. We are very excited to be covered by the magazine at all, and being prominently displayed on page 4 of the issue is a huge bonus.

Sculptr.com visits Paradise City

Jasper, Tony, and I had the opportunity to visit the Paradise City Arts Festival in Marlboro, MA this weekend.  As always, we really enjoyed meeting some of our artists in person for the first time.  The show was slightly smaller than we expected, but the visitor turnout was great.  Our only issue was that most of our favorite artists from the show were either already listing their work on Sculptr (Cristine Santo, Roberta Elliott, MeKo Designs, Dorothy Fagan) or were already planning on setting up their Studios with us (Cheryl Rezendes, Ann Light, Nathaniel Smith), so new artist recruitment during the show did not end up being top priority.  Still, not a bad problem to have and we had fun.

Badges

We are very excited to announce the new ‘Badge’ feature for SCULPTR artists to use on their personal websites or blogs. To the right (towards the bottom of the gray section) is an example of what one of these badges would look like. The artist can choose whether the layout is vertical or horizontal and how many listings are shown (the listings are randomly chosen from the artist’s Studio collections.)

If you are an artist and would like to generate the code for your own badge, just log in to your Studio and go to the Manage Account section. Click the ‘Create a Badge’ link, configure the badge and paste the resulting HTML code directly into your own web page.

Our first international sale!

Heather McFarlandA visitor to our site from Canada bought a photograph by Heather McFarland yesterday, which was very good news.  Since our marketing efforts are not necessarily targeted to the US, it will be interesting for us to see over the next couple months what percentage of our orders originate internationally.  In any case, we are excited that after just two weeks, word is already starting to spread about Sculptr.com and we hope that the momentum continues.

Paradise City Arts Festival

Daybreak/Nightfall: a work by Dorothy FaganParadise City is this weekend in Marlborough, which is about 30 miles outside of Boston. The show features 175 independent artists and ‘master craftsmen.’ Our Sculptr.com team will be visiting Paradise City on Friday to enjoy the show visit with some of our artists. Dorothy Fagan, whose painting ‘Wissahickon’ is shown above, is one of our artists who will be exhibiting this weekend.

Forum

Because we were so busy with our launch last week, we hardly gave our new forum any attention at all.  The primary reason we created the forum was to bridge the online gap between artists and art enthusiasts.  Many of our artists were hesistant to list their work online because they didn’t want to lose direct contact with their customers.  Hopefully the forum will help to alleviate this dilemma.  Additionally, we hope that over time it serves as a general ‘water cooler’ for our artists and visitors, and we’re going to do our best to keep the forum simple and informal.

Please stop by and say hello in the Welcome Center, and feel free to post a new discussion topic.  If you are already an artist with SCULPTR, there is no need to create a new account (it’s the same as for the main site.)

Thanks photo-i

Camellia Pink: a work by Kevin ElliottWe wanted to take a minute to thank photo-i for their great support during our launch, especially Kevin Elliott (who is also one of our artists) and Vincent Oliver, photo-i’s owner. The UK based photography site was kind enough to announce our launch on their front page and even included a link to our entire press release (if you haven’t read our press release yet, please click on Kevin Elliott’s flower to the right.) We very much appreciated the additional publicity and we are grateful to have a friendship with photo-i.
